The tragedies that shape lives form the infrastructure of her novels, wtapped in hope and survival. Anyone who has lost a beloved-person or creature- will relate to her stories. I look forward to more.This Kindle edition had many typos, but I doubt they were the fault of this creative and literate author.Wonderful novel!
A reader gets accustomed to characters in a series. Of course, there will always be new ones, but Hazel has made an art of throwing that comfort zone out the window. And now that I've figured that out, it's fun to try to figure out when, where, and which of my old friends will pop up.Can't wait for the next one, Hazel. By the way, I bet I'm one of (if not THE) oldest of your fans. Decades past the demographic you say you're aiming for.
I was really sorry to read the last page! Not going to give away the plot but suffice it to say here is a tale that swings us readers from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other, with many a snag to hang up on while enroute.Wonderful read. Looking forward to more stories by this author.
Really enjoyable read. Different type of horsey book than I normally read. The characters were all great and really worked well together.

I read a lot of equestrian fiction through kindle unlimited, almost an embarrassing amount, and this book is easily in the top five titles I’ve read. Beyond just being a fun, horsey read, it’s a well-written look at life after losing a loved one. The protagonist’s grief is palpable, and though she’s the kind of perfect beauty some of us love to hate in real life, she’s written with in a graceful way that will help you empathize with the women who you might otherwise dismiss as ice queens. In many cases, the romance elements of eq fiction books are downright nauseating, but again, the author delivers. She could have easily written something trite or predictable, but instead she wrote something rich and beautiful! If you’re on the fence about this one, back up, find your distance and take a leap, it’s a must read!!!
Going into this book I wasn't aware of the death and subsequent grief being a main part of the book. I almost put it down because the loss experienced by the main character is a loss I myself have felt. Initially I was dismayed by the length it took to get into the horsey aspect of the book, but it built the main character as more than just a horsewoman--she became a real multifaceted person experiencing the grief, insecurities, and resolution that we all go through at one time or another. Although I didn't find myself on the cross country course, I did eventually find myself and build a new life like the main character. I appreciate the way the author delved into the emotions of the main character and let us have an insight into that undesirable position of being almost, but not quite before death ends the ride.
