If not, then go back to Kylea's first book,"The breath Work Experience" and get someone to teach you appropriate breathing techniques. Or find any of the so many forms you can undergo to open the depth of non ordinary space. Today there is even a molecule that would do it in 15 minutes, something I am sure does not surprises Kylea, as it was in 95, the year this book was published, that the molecule was formally given its deserved attention and respect.What becomes important in this book is the still deeper set and setting sitter experience.The turn of the century and later years that followed 1995 would see our present subject under discussion divided into two mayor views regarding the matter, two perspectives: Kylea Taylor's and Wolfgang Giegerich's. Back then Kylea Taylor's young presence was emerging from the hands of a revitalized freudian researcher by the name of Stanislav Grof. In this, her second book, we discover the crystal sharp and well written theoretical proposition to add (more like life-inject) the dimension of non-ordinary states of consciousness right into Freudian transferential ideas, heart of Freudian theory.Wow!The other psychological presence at the time was an interesting philosophical way to present psychological and ethical issues by declaring the non ordinary itself as "neurotically fabricated" and obsolete... and period... gone! Very important guide for anyone working in the helping professions that engages with clients in non-ordinary reality in their sessions or who works with clients who have experienced non-ordinary reality elsewhere. Covers transference and countertransference with regard to psychological, emotional and spiritual realms. She uses the chakra systems as a way to anchor the developmental process. The importance of high ethical standards seems like it should be a given but when the therapists own psychological needs and developmental process get mixed in, the standards can be questioned or compromised unconsciously. Taylor encourages therapists (et al) to be in collegial groups or relationships where their "stuff" can be discussed and examined.
This book was required reading for my while I was studying to attain my Reiki Master's certificate. I expected a rather dull ethics book, but this book is nothing even near dull. It takes the ethics of healing touch to a completely different (and clearer) level and gave me a much better understanding of my role as a Reiki Master. I understand why my teacher has her students study this book because of the depth of some of the issues are addressed in such a clear fashion that there can be no question as to how to handle them. It even covered things that I would have never thought of and explained our role explicitly. To me, it should be a must for anyone going into a healing touch profession whether it be Reiki or massage therapy or any related practices. We are responsible for our clients well-being and this is the overall theme of this book. Excellent source and easy reading.
great book on the different concerns for people in altered states
This book helped me understand a leader who was possibly suffering from burnout. I remember her saying "it takes its toll," referring to playing an instrument for many dying patients over the years. I saw too many files tied up in Random Access Memory--her going in too many different directions of caring for the elderly instead of sticking to one.
A refreshing approach to ethics, it examines many aspects of human life that are typically not discussed in depth, especially in regard to ethics.
