Personally I was really impatient to get into the second book from Darrell. And it was definitely worth the wait. This book is definitely more much serious as we near the end of the first world war. The stress of fighting a war where a few hundred metres gain was seen as a major victory; but at the cost of thousands was unbelievably stressful for those fighting in the unforgiving trenches. A truly complete senseless war where millions have died. This has been the case for the past 4 years without interruption. However things are going to change and also very dramatically for all. Our author Darrell weaves this dramatic change cleverly through the eyes of our Canadian hero Malcolm MacPhail. We see the allies, typically the colonials beginning to get the upper hand against the Germans. Until that final day which finishes at 11 am. The book is extremely well written with a nice flowing pace but with a very clear attention to detail and facts. I would definitely encourage others to buy both book 1 and book 2.
It has all the things I like in military historical fiction. I like the author's pacing of the story, descriptive, keeping sentences enjoyable not overdrawn. There is no denying the effort at historical accuracy - and it 'feels' accurate. Which kept me in the moment, with the troops. As it should be.Having devoured both MacPhail books , I will eagerly wait for the author's next book - any war, any hero, it will be good.cac

I read a lot if books, and WWI is among my favorite topics. Malcolm's story is well worth the read. Great characters, backed up by accurate and entertaining story telling. Very much enjoyed this two book series. Highly recommended!
I big fan of historical fiction going back to reading C.S. Forester as a kid. This is excellent plot and writing around a horrific environment. The environmental descriptions are so believable.Hope that there is more from this author.
Good character development and captures the feeling of devastating and fear of the great war. If Macphail has other adventures is read them.
My Hundred Days of War by Darrell Duthie is book 2 of Malcolm MacPhail series. It is set during August 1918 in Amiens, France. It has adventure, war, and a look at the war itself from an Malcolm intelligence officer's view. Darrell Duthie writes a story that keeps your interest and shows the question that creep in during war. It a victory a victory or not? This book can be read as a stand alone but if you read the first book it gives you a better feel for the story.
This second novel of Malcolm's WW1 experience is as well written as the first one, perhaps even more addictive - thrilling up until the last page. I like the cynical realism, the very personal viewpoint of the main character but also lots of hidden humor! Impatiently awaiting the next part of the Malcolm series!
