The packaging is so cute! The bookplates were packaged in a box that resembled a three tier magazine wall rack. There are three different groups of bookplates. Each group has a different color and height. There are a total of six different designs on 55 total bookplates. Quotes from C.S Lewis, Helen Keller, Henry W. Longfellow, Hilaire Belloc, Cicero, and Jorge Luis Borges are printed on some of the designs. The ones without quotes have "Ex Libris" (from the library of) printed on them. The designs are neutral and are not overtly masculine or too feminine. I love them and will be ordering more in the future. Also, great quantity for an awesome price. (I think I got these on sale).
One of the downsides to purchasing “like new†used books is the previous owner’s name may be written on the inside front cover. However, the savings from purchasing pre-owned books allows me to purchase additional volumes for my library. “Antiquarian Bookplates†are the perfect solution for covering unexpected writing inside a book’s cover. Bought this as a gift for a reader and included it with a reading journal, a little personal library kit and a book. It went over well. I liked the bookplates and they seemed worth the price.
I chose this style for its literary significance, which remains the only and most attractive aspect of this product. However, if the label will not adhere to the page, there is no benefit to its use. My beautifully designed markers will only remain attached with scotch tape, which cheapens the look of the label and of the book. Additionally, gel ink either smears or takes an unexceptionally long period of time to dry. If you try to expedite the drying by blotting your writing, the ink can smear. In all, the purchase was an utter disappointment and I am again hunting for bookplates.
Using bookplates for books that are being kept is a family tradition. These are perfect for me; I like the quotes on the bookplates and I like the old fashioned look.
These are really very nice bookplates. Quality looking and feeling paper. They stick well and I had no issue with peeling them from their backing. I've even managed to find use for the sticker's framing. I love the packaging that they came in - will find a good use for it once the stock is exhausted. All-n-all I am a satisfied customer of this product.
As a previous reviewer noted, these are rather stiff and best suited to hardcover books. Also I find that you must be very careful in removing them from their backing, lest they tear, and in applying them to the book, lest one corner should stubbornly refuse to stick. Also, allow your writing to dry thoroughly before touching it, lest it smear. With those thoughts in mind, I'd say these are fairly economical bookplates, compared to most of the others I've seen for sale.
